The Silk Splendour of a Golden Wedding Anniversary – Hélène Jacobsson’s Dress from 1927
Alfred and Hélène Jacobsson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on 18 January 1927. The festivities were held in the couple’s home on Hämeenkatu.
For the occasion, Hélène wore a magnificent silk dress with lace, made especially for the golden wedding anniversary. The dress was produced at Augusta Lundin’s atelier in Stockholm. The granddaughter Dora Helena, known within the family as “Baby,” took part in the journey to collect the dress. Baby also received a festive outfit: a white silk dress with a printed flower on the shoulder, along with silk stockings.
Hélène’s golden wedding dress is made of silk and features a lace collar that continues as a shawl across the back of the dress. The collar is finished at the front with a bronze-colored bow, and the lace section is detachable. The front of the dress, as well as the lower edge of the lace at the back, is decorated with fringes made from knitted cords.

The dress is part of the collections of the museum Ett Hem and was conserved in 2025. Due to the delicate nature of the silk material, the dress can no longer be displayed in a traditional exhibition. Following conservation, the dress was documented using 3D technology, and a video of it is currently shown on a digital screen in the museum.
